Fixed-asset Investment,Regional Innovation and the Quality of New-type Urbanization——Empirical Evidence from Eight Provinces in the Western Region
In 2012,the Central Economic Work Conference emphasized the need to improve the quality of urbanization.Since then, new urbanization efforts have made some progress across various regions. However, due to the late start of urbanization in the western regions, there is a significant gap compared to the eastern coastal areas. This article uses provincial panel data from eight provinces in the western region from 2012 to 2021,employing methods such as the entropy method, mediation effect, and panel threshold model to comprehensively evaluate the quality of new urbanization in these provinces. It systematically examines the relationship between fixed asset investment, regional innovation, and the quality of new urbanization. The results indicate that increased fixed asset investment can enhance the quality of new urbanization, and it affects this quality by improving regional innovation. Therefore,in advancing new urbanization,it is crucial to coordinate the relationship between fixed asset investment and regional innovation to effectively enhance the quality of new urbanization and achieve high-quality economic development.
