Mount Zongcai,Natural Disaster in the Guanzhong Area and the Establishment of the Second Turkic Khaganate:Focus on Epitaphs of Wang Zhongxuan and Zhao Huiman
This article focuses on the Epitaphs of Wang Zhongxuan and Zhao Huiman, and explores the favorable climate and geographical conditions that contributed to Qutluy's revival of the Turkic Khanate in the early period.According to the epitaph of Wang Zhongxuan,it can be determined that Mount Zongcai already had an important position in the first revolt of Turks.During the third revolt,Qutluγ"sought protection in Mount Zongcai(čoγay)"and occupied the geographical advan-tage of reviving the Turkic Khanate. After Qutluγ raised his army, the Tang Dynasty adopted a passive defensive policy a-gainst him.Although this was due to the unstable political situation in the Western Regions, the frequent internal unrest in the Tang and Zhou dynasties,Wu Zetian's rejection of dissidents and the massacre of military officers, etc.,we can't ig-nore the impacts of natural disasters around Yongchun period in the Guanzhong area and Outer Mongolia, which affected the rise of Qutluγ.Natural disasters in Guanzhong area in the first year(682)of Yongchun prevented the Tang Dynasty from organizing an active and effective counterattack, which allowed Qutluγ to develop his influence in Mount Zongcai and He-isha City(qara qum);and the following three years of severe drought in Outer Mongolia provided an opportunity to the Turks'intrusion into Mount Yudujin(Ütükän)and the disintegration of Tang's Jimi system in Outer Mongolia.
