Preliminary study on the activity rhythm of Himalayan iguana in Jiacha Gorge of Yarlung Zangbo River
Jiacha Gorge of Yarlung Zangbo River is home to a rich variety of wild animals,a national priority protected wild animal Himalayan iguana(Capricornis thar)also lives in the gorge, but there has been no systematic investigation of the Himalayan iguana, which affects the scientific protection of the Himalayan iguana. From May 2020 to December 2022,a total of 85 infrared cameras were deployed in Jiacha Gorge to monitor the Himalayan iguana and conduct preliminary studies on the activity rhythm of the Himalayan iguana. The total working days of the cameras were 39109 days,of which 80 cameras captured the Himalayan iguana antelope, obtaining a total of 15744 effective photos,of which 2650 in-dependent effective detection numbers. The results showed that:1)the daily activity rhythm of the Hi-malayan iguana presented a bimodal pattern throughout the year, with the peak of activity occurring at 4∶00-6∶00 and 19∶00-21∶00,and the trough at 10∶00-15∶00;2)The activity intensity in autumn was higher than that in spring, summer and winter;3)The activity peak of the dry season is one hour earlier than that of the rainy season, and lasts longer;4)Himalayan iguanas are nocturnal animals. The infrared camera has been used to monitor the Jiacha Gorge for nearly two and a half years, and the ac-tivity rhythm of the Himalayan iguana in the gorge has been understood to a certain extent, which lays a foundation for subsequent research, protection and management.
