Effects of Calcium Stress on Physiological Characteristics of Asparagus cochinchinensis Seed Germination
In order to study the physiological mechanism of Asparagus cochinchinensis seed germina-tion in response to calcium ion stress, the seeds were cultured in a culture dish with a diameter of 20 cm on filter paper and cultured in an artificial climate chamber at 25℃ in the dark.Hoagland nutrient solution containing different concentration of calcium ions(0,75,150 mmol/L)was poured, and the physiological characteristics of germinated seeds were observed. The results showed that with the increase of treatment concentration, the water content of the germinated seeds decreased. And the electronic conductivity, the content of total soluble sugar, proline, malondialdehyde, hydrogen per-oxide,superoxide anion, the activity of antioxidant enzymes all showed an increasing trend. The results indicated that calcium ion stress may induce osmotic stress to the germination seed cells and further lead to oxidative stress. The germinated seeds may regulate the osmotic pressure of cells by synthesizing osmoprotective substance and scavenging reactive oxygen species by antioxidant enzymes.
