On China's image in sinology:a focus on Jullien,Billeter and Kozo Mizoguchi
The difference between China and the West does always connect with the issue about how Chinese scholars fit into the world academic community. For this matter,China under the perspective of sinology can be a research sample. The French sinologist François Jullien relativizes and particularize China, and realizes the deconstruction of the Western center through the space between Chinese thought and Western thought. On the contrary, the Swiss sinologist Jean François Billeter stands for the universality against Jullien's proposition about the heterogeneity of China.Despite the particular or universal approaches, both of them take China as the different"other"and a deconstruction or supplement of Western thought.Different from Jullien and Billeter, the Japanese sinologist Kozo Mizoguchi advocates China as a different methodology, and his definition of China involves less meanings of discourse hegemony than those made by the other two sinologists. In the view of sinologists,China is always in a state of aphasia. Therefore, the way of conversation among different languages for entry into Chinese thought through the foreign languages not only constitutes the methodological cores among the sinologists, but brings the inspirations for the philosophical studies through Chinese as well.
