The version and value of Haiwai Ji compiled by Fan Shu in the early Qing Dynasty
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the anthologies of poems made by Su Shi in Hainan won great attention among the local officials and scholars in Hainan, which successively turned into Judan Lu(A Re-cord of Living in Danzhou)and Haiwai Lu(A Recorder of Overseas Experiences).Fan Shu,a magistrate of Linggao County during the Qing Dynasty, spontaneously compiled Collection of Su Shi's Poems about Hainan in the reign of Kangxi Emperor in 1704,which connected Ju dan Lu and Haiwai Lu,and has been the only version of Haiwa Ji(An Anthology of Su Shi's Poems on Hainan)with comments and annotations. For one thing,Fan Shu's version of Haiwai Ji has become the primary version for the later compilations of Hai-wai Ji,especially when Dai Xi's version of Haiwai Ji published in the reign of Wanli Emperor in 1619,got lost in the country. Therefore,it has made great contributions to the compilation history of Su Shi's poems on Hainan. For another,Fan Shu's version of Haiwai Ji makes the unique annotations of sceneries in Hainan, and the comments on Su Shi's poetry(especially the poems learning Tao Yuanming),which make it stand out of plenty of anthologies annotating and commenting Su Shi's poems.
