A meta-analysis of the antecedents and consequences of organizational unlearning
Since firms tend to be in a turbulent external environment due to the continuous changes in policy, technology, and market,it is necessary for them to respond to the changing external environments so as to maintain their competitive advantages and their own survival and development.Organizational unlearning,as an effective adaptive behavior, has attracted much attention in both the academia and the industry. However, there are still great divergencies in its relationships with variables among the different studies. In order to clarify the antecedents and consequences of organizational unlearning, this study conducts a meta-analysis of 31,909 samples in 39 empirical studies at home and abroad. The results show that the external environmental dyna-mism,along with internal entrepreneurial orientation and organizational improvisation, plays a key role in promoting the organizational unlearning behaviors.Correspondingly, organizational unlearning can enhance the organizational performance in finance, radical innovation and new product development, playing a positive role in facilitating organizational learning, improving absorptive capacity and dynamic capability, assisting strategic transformation, and enhancing sustainable competitiveness.
