A historical survey on the dissemination,publication and influence of the Chinese translation of The Preface to the Critique of Political Economy
The Preface to Criticism of Political Economy,as a classic text explaining historical materialism,has always been the focus of translation,dissemination and interpretation in China.In the course of a hundred years of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context,the spread of The Preface in China has roughly experienced four stages from the excerpt translation to the full translation till the revision.The introduction of The Preface has changed the understandings of Marxism and the laws of social and historical development,profoundly affecting the exploration of Chinese revolution and construction road.On the other hand,with the development of prac-tice and the progress of theoretical research,the understanding of The Preface has been deepened among the aca-demic circle,and its translation has been perfected and accurate.Although the translation of this article has been very mature at present,the issue of"how to understand the basic content and status of The Preface"that results from the changes in translation is still the focus of attention and one of the focal points of controversy in the theoretical circle.Therefore,reviewing this course is of great significance to grasp the development of Marxism completely and accurately.
