Has rural tourism improved the happiness of rural residents?the microscopic data from Bozong Village in Hainan
As China enters a new stage of development, especially in the important period of solidly promoting common prosperity, how to improve people's happiness has gradually become an increasingly important issue among all sectors of society. In the context of rural tourism profoundly affecting the development of rural communities,Bozong Village in Hainan Province,a model village of rural tourism,is used as a research object to examine the impact and mechanism of rural tourism on the villager happiness at the micro level with an ordered Probit model. It is found that rural tourism can significantly improve the happiness of rural resi-dents.Compared with villagers who do not participate in rural tourism, villagers who participate in rural tourism have a higher happiness level of 0.167 units. The further analysis indicates that the benefit perception, relative deprivation and property rights for tourism resources play a mediating role in rural tourism and happiness of rural residents.Among them, the mediating role of benefit perception is the most significant and has a positive effect on happiness improvement;the ambiguous property rights for tourism resources and the sense of relative deprivation have an inhibiting effect on happiness improvement. Therefore,it is suggested to improve the benefit distribution mechanism of rural tourism, integrate the rural tourism resources, and guide the villagers'internal attribution in the process of rural tourism development.
