The inward remittance from overseas is the money remitted by the overseas Chinese to their relatives in China,which is the legal income and source of life for the overseas Chinese family.Hainan,a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in China,began accepting the inward remittances from overseas on a large scale after the Second Opium War.After the liberation of Hainan in 1950,this method of contact gradually strengthened.Since the reform and opening up,the use and quantity of the inward remittances have also changed.The use of inward remittances from overseas shifts from the consumption to the productive invest-ment,which has driven the town construction in the rural areas.The quantity of inward remittances from over-seas obviously decreased,which can not be found in official records after the 21st century.In this regard,the paper mainly discusses the use and function change of inward remittances from overseas in Hainan's economic and social development.
