Occurrence and development of post-COVID-19 sarcopenia and the mechanism of improvement through exercise
The Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19),prevalent since 2019,impacts global health, safety, and lifestyle.Due to the collaborative efforts of various countries, the emergence of vaccines and specific drugs has led to a continuous increase in clinical cure rates.However,post-COVID-19 sarcopenia remains a persistent challenge im-pacting affected individuals'physical activity and overall quality of life.COVID-19 multi-system symptoms and sarco-penia mutually interfere with each other,in a co-effective intervention approach.Exercise shows a good therapeutic ef-fect on post-COVID-19 sarcopenia. This article focuses on the clinical efficacy of exercise therapy for sarcopenia after COVID-19,and reviews the possible mechanisms involved. The results indicate that the potential mechanisms by which exercise improves post-COVID-19 sarcopenia are closely related to the immune system, mitochondrial function,hor-mone levels, muscle satellite cells, psychological status, and gut microbiota.
