Application of semitendinosus and semitendinosus-gracilis tendon transplantation in arthroscopic repair for anterior cruciate ligament injury of knee joint
Objective To compare the effect of semitendinosus(ST)and semitendinosus-gracilis(STG)tendon transplantation in arthroscopic repair for anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)injury of knee joint. Methods A total of 120 pa-tients with ACL injury admitted to Zhengzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from August 2018 to May 2024 were selected and divided into group A and group B according to random odd-even number method, with 60 patients in each group.ST tendon transplantation was performed in group A,and STG tendon transplantation was performed in group B.Before and at 3 months after surgery,Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),International Knee Documentation Com-mittee(IKDC)Subjective Knee Evaluation Form,Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale,Tegner Activity Scale, and protractor were used to evaluate the degree of knee pain, knee system function, knee local function, movement level, and knee mo-bility of the two groups. The quality of life of the two groups before and after 3 months of follow-up and the incidence of complications after 3 months follow-up were compared between the two groups. Results Before surgery, there were no significant differences in knee VAS,IKDC,and Lysholm scores between the two groups(P>0.05).Three months after surgery, the VAS score of both groups was significantly lower than that before surgery, and the score of group A was(2.13±0.41)points,which was significantly lower than(4.38±0.46)points of group B,with statistically significant differ-ences(P<0.05).Three months after surgery,IKDC and Lysholm scores of patients in both groups were significantly high-er than those before surgery, and the scores of patients in group A were(85.74±4.41)points and(63.65±6.43)points,re-spectively,which were significantly higher than(80.43±5.52)points and(54.17±5.52)points in group B,with statistical-ly significant differences(P<0.05).Before surgery, there were no significant differences in Tegner score and range of mo-tion between the two groups(P>0.05).At three months after surgery,Tegner score and range of motion in both groups were significantly higher than those before surgery, and the two indexes in group A were(7.56±1.02)points and(100.84±6.43)°,respectively,which were significantly higher than(6.77±0.85)points and(85.51±6.83)°in group B,with statisti-cally significant differences(P<0.05).Before operation, there were no significant differences in psychological function, social function, emotional function, and physical function between the two groups(P>0.05).At three months after sur-gery,the above scores of the two groups were significantly higher than those before surgery, and the scores of group A were(88.64±5.52)points,(85.32±7.74)points,(88.23±6.12)points,and(85.63±5.72)points,respectively,significantly higher than(80.23±6.76)points,(76.53±7.97)points,(76.22±8.64)points,and(78.35±6.18)points of group B,with sta-tistically significant differences(P<0.05).At three months after surgery, the total incidence of complications in group A was 5.00%,slightly lower than 8.33%in group B(P>0.05).Conclusion In arthroscopic repair for ACL injury of knee,ST tendon transplantation has better effect than STG,which can better restore the patient's knee joint function, reduce the pain of patients, and improve their quality of life.It is worthy of clinical application and promotion.
