Research progress of residual cholesterol in diabetic patients with coronary heart disease
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with diabetes.Epidemiological and genetic studies have consistently shown that individuals with type 2 diabetes have a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular disease, primarily due to lipid metabolism disorders.Current lipid management guidelines predominantly recommend targeting low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)as the primary intervention. However, even with statin therapy, many type 2 diabetes patients continue to experience considerable residual cardiovascular risk.Recent research on residual cholesterol has provided insights that may help explain this phenomenon. This review ex-plores the role of residual cholesterol in patients with type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease, aiming to enhance the prediction of residual risk and offer improved prevention and treatment strategies for these patients.
