The Characteristic Analysis of Herpes Simplex by Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
Objective:To investigate the characteristic of herpes simplex by reflectance confocal microscopy(RCM).Methods:Thirty-nine patients with herpes simplex diagnosed by polymerase chain reaction were examined by RCM,and the characteristics of RCM images were analyzed. Results:Intraepidermal blisters were found in 37 patients, acantholytic cells and multinucleated epidermal giant cells were found within the blisters in 32 cases, while only inflammatory cells within the blisters were seen in the other 5 patients with blisters. Conclusion:Acantholytic cells or multinucleated epidermal giant cells in blisters can be be an important diagnostic basis for herpes simplex by RCM.
