Assessment of Water Body Health Based on B-IBI Index in Qinhuangdao City
To obtain a precise assessment of the water quality status in the rivers of Qinhuangdao City,an extensive sampling survey was undertaken, focusing on the large benthic invertebrate com-munities within 15 distinct sections of seven prominent rivers, namely Shi River,Xin River,Dai River,Dongsha River,Yinma River,Qinglong River and Xiyang River. The obtained data were subsequently analyzed utilizing the Benthic Index of Biotic Integrity(B-IBI).A total of 41 species belonging to the macrobenthic invertebrate fauna were identified classifying them into four phyla, seven classes and twenty-eight families. The prevailing species included Radix sp.,Chironomus sp.and Rheopelopia sp.A set of 18 parameters were selected from five categories namely taxon number, community structure, pollution tolerance, life type and functional feeding groups. The core parameters for the construction of the Biological Index of Benthic Integrity(B-IBI)index com-prised the total taxon number the macroinvertebrate sensitive group evaluation index(BMWP in-dex)and the percentage of predators. The results of the B-IBI evaluation indicated that the ecologi-cal health status of the Xiyang River and Xinhe River was categorized as excellent, while the Dongsha River,Yinma River,Qinglong River,Daihe River and Shihe River demonstrated a rela-tively moderate ecological health status.Notably,no rivers were classified as having poor or ex-tremely poor ecological health.
