This paper reviewed the progress on breeding of poplar in Hubei province and in China from different aspects such as germplasm resource,introduction,cross-breeding,polyploid breeding and molecular breeding.The problems exis-ted and the countermeasures that should be taken in poplar breeding at present in Hubei province and in China were also discussed in this paper.
