Precise Transformation Artificial Background Forest of Fairylake Botanical Garden in Shenzhen
Taking the artificial background forest of Fairylake Botanical Garden as research object, the evaluation model on the quality of background forest form was established by AH P.Complemented by landscape visibility analysis using Arc GIS,it proposes a precise afforestation renovation plan. The results indicated that the background forests, influenced by past anthropocentric activities, were predominantly artificial secondary forests dominated by South Asian tropical ever-green broad leaf forests and mixed coniferous-broad leaf forests. The overall forest stand quality was subpar, characterized by low biodiversity and fragile community structures, which was in congruent with the garden's designated functional and aesthetic attributes.Based on the comprehensive evaluation, six tailored afforestation strategies including afforestation on barren land, selective thinning, under story planting, orchard inter cropping, supplementary planting, and conservation through natural growth have been implemented to achieve a precise micro-renovation of the artificial background forests. These measures have significantly enhanced the botanical garden's ecological functionality and scenic appeal, fulfilling the dual roles of a scenic and ecologically vibrant botanical garden. Moreover, this research furnishes a valuable empirical ref-erence for forest stand revitalization and ecological management in urban botanical gardens, emphasizing a restoration ap-proach that balances scientific theory with practical implementation.
