Analysis of Volume Characteristics of Stands of Different Populus nigra Varieties with Different Density in Jianghan Plain
In this study,the DBH and height traits of 4 varieties of Populus nigra in Jianghan Plain were measured under 5 kinds of densityfor 6 consecutive years,and the volume characteristics of different varieties under different densities and different ages were compared.The result showed that there were significant differences in DBH and height traits among different varieties,different densities with 6 years old.The cumulative volume growth per hectare and the average annual net volume growth per tree of different varieties showed different characteristics at different densities and different ages.The results showed that in order to harvest the maximum volume per unit area during 4-6 years of poplar cultivation in Jianghan Plain,the density of P.deltoides'2025'should be 6 m×6 m,the density of P.× euramericana'Chulin 2'and P.deltoides'Danhong'should be 2 m×6 m,but the density of P.deltoides'Huashi 2'should be 3 m×6 m.As for the av-erage annual netvolume growth rate of individual tree,different varieties had different growth rates at different densities and different ages.The net growth rate of P.deltoides'2025'was similar with the 5 different densities and different a-ges,but the net growth rate of the other 3 varieties with different densities and different ages was significantly different.This study found the stand volume characteristics of different P.nigra varieties under different densities in Jianghan Plain,and provided scientific basis for poplar cultivation in this area.
