The Impact of Sanctions on Food Security:Analysis From Traditional and Contemporary Perspectives
The issue of"hunger"has long been a significant challenge faced by human society. The defi-nition of"food security"established at the first World Food Summit in 1996 provided a new perspective for understanding and addressing the problem of hunger. As we entered the 21st century, food security garnered widespread attention from the international community, leading to an influx of related research. In February 2022,Russia initiated special military operations against Ukraine, prompting Western nations to impose unprecedented economic sanctions on Russia. This development not only impacted global food security but also created an unprecedented linkage between sanctions and food security issues. While the effects of sanctions on food security are not a novel concern, the threats posed by Western sanctions a-gainst Russia in 2022 exhibited characteristics distinct from traditional paradigms.Examining the causal relationship between sanctions and food security from both traditional and modern perspectives can con-tribute significantly to more effectively addressing the global issue of hunger.
