Advances in Variety Breeding of Amorphophallus konjac
In this paper, several cultivated Amorphophallus konjac varieties in the world were introduced and the achievements obtained in A.konjac breeding including hybridization, radiation induced mutation, polyploidy and transgenic engineering were summarized.The three main development focuses of A.konjac breeding were proposed.Firstly, the collection, evaluation and utilization of wild A.konjac resources should be an important task.Secondly, several new disease-resistant transgenic A.konjac resources should be obtained.Finally, researchers should attach more attention to polyploid breeding, especially odd-numbered polyploid A.konjac.
