Effect of Cutting Time on Growth Performance and Quality of Hybrid Pennisetum urpureum Guimu-1
The influence of cutting time on growth performance and the quality of hybrid Pennisetum urpureum Guimu-1 were studied by using single factor randomized design. The results showed that the plant height, leaf length, leaf width, tiller number and stern/leaf ratio were all the highest when cutted after 60 d from the first cutting, which were obviously higher than other groups. The total yield of fresh grass, hay, crude protein and crude fiber in 60 d cutting group was also the highest, which was 5 526.6 kg/667m2,1 005.9 kg/667m2,128.8 kg/667m2 and 298.8 kg/667m2,respectively.But the content of crude protein in the hay of 40 d cutting group was the highest, and in the 60 d cutting group was the least; the rank of content of crude fiber were on the opposite.
