Chinese as Methodology:From Early Written Records to the Contemporary Value of Chinese Poetics
Chinese has a dual attribute of"literature"and"speech",which distinguishes it from Indo-European languages that taking"speech"as its main function.The same origin of grammar and logic has led to a conceptual and experiential dispute in the theoretical expression of Indo-European languages,but the characteristic of Chinese language that connects metaphysics and physical world form makes Chinese expression itself a method.As a carrier of the expression of"Dao"(道),early Chinese records and its grammatical structure provide crucial information.The format of oracle inscriptions of divination provides a traceable prototype for the structure of the literature of"Yi"(易),and also provides important clues for exploring how"the style of theory from Yi"works in the shaping of the function of Chinese Poetics.Among them,the cosmic chronology of the combination of Gan(干)and Zhi(支)provides a transcending linear spatiotemporal structure for the discourse expression of"time based events";"the setting of positive and negative questions"expressing the dynamic balance of semantics and the principle of shape in changing;and the structure of"topic+explanation"providing a positive solution to the difficulty of assertions by accumulating text levels layer by layer.Chinese grammar can maintain a concern for"change"while expressing judgments,which has contemporary value for constructing a theoretical discourse that can not only standardize the description of artistic experience but also directly face the human situation.
