During the period of the Total War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression,under the blockade policy of the Japanese and Kuomintang,the CPC suffered from shortages of quilts,energy,medicine and other materials,and coupled with the powerful reproductive function of lice,a widespread lice infestation existed in the base areas.The Japanese army's"Three Alls Policy"and"gas war"deteriorated the ecological environment and used lice to carry out"bacteriological warfare",which led to the flight of refugees and exacerbated the spread of the lice infestation.In response to epidemics such as typhus,return fever and scabies brought on by the lice situation,the CPC launched a lice eradication campaign,combining lice eradication with mainstream revolutionary campaigns such as top-level design,revolutionary mobilisation,hygiene campaigns,production of quilts and clothing,medical innovations,epidemic preparedness,propaganda and culture,mass education,and anti-witch god struggles in order to control the spread of lice and epidemics.In revolutionary bases,lice have been nicknamed"revolutionary bugs",the surface logic of which is that lice have become the revolutionary symbols of the CPC's revolutionary memory and historical identity,and the deeper logic of which is that through lice,revolutionary values can be shaped,close party relations can be established,and revolutionary mobilisation can be achieved.
