Objective To analyze the status of oral health in college students, and to identify the prevalence of dental caries and calculus, and the influencing factors in them. Methods A total of 402 college students were randomly selected using the stratified cluster random sampling methods for examining their oral health and questionnaire surveying.Statistical analysis was performed by the Mann-Whitney U test and Chi-square test.Multivariable Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the risk factors for dental caries and dental calculus. Results The detection rate of dental calculus and dental caries was 39.55%and 48.26%,respectively.The awareness rate of oral health knowledge and the rate of positive attitude were 48.66%and 44.15%,respectively.There were differences in the detection rate of dental caries among gender, ethnicity, and the highest educational level of parents(P<0.05).Those with higher monthly living expenses had a significantly lower detection rate of dental calculus compared with college students with lower monthly living expenses(P<0.05).Compared with those living in the rural areas, the detection rate of dental calculus and caries detection in college students living in the urban areas was significantly lower(P<0.05).Compared with those having the occasional snacking or snacking habit, the detection rate of dental caries was significantly lower in college students without the habit of eating snacks(P<0.05).Logistic regression showed that the risk of dental calculus in rural areas is higher than that in urban areas(OR= 1.73,95%CI:1.10-2.71),and the risk of dental calculus is lower in monthly living expense over 1,000 yuan(OR= 0.65,95%CI:0.43-0.97).Occasional(OR=6.54,95%CI:1.80-23.67)and frequent snacking(OR=4.14,95%CI:1.14-15.06)were risk factors for dental caries in college students.Compared with Han people,Tibetans and other ethnic groups had a higher risk of dental caries(OR=3.35,95%CI:1.95-5.76).Conclusion The detection rate of dental caries among college students in a nationality college is high, and the oral health knowledge, attitude and behavior are not optimistic.Targeted preventive interventions and health care should be performed.
