Breast cancer is one of the highly heterogeneous disease with the highest incidence of female malignant tumors in the world. It can be divided into four molecular subtypes according to the positive or negative expressions of certain molecules.Different subtypes of breast cancer present varied histological characteristics, clinical behaviors and prognostic characteristics.Stanniocalcin 1(STC1)is a secreted glycoprotein hormone that has regulates calcium and phosphate homeostasis.Moreover,STC1 is expressed in various tissues of mammals and involved in multiple physiological and pathophysiological processes. At the same time, increasing evidences have shown the carcinogenic role of STC1 in many types of human tumors. To identify the correlation between STC1 and breast cancer,we summarize existing research data about STC1 in breast cancer by literature review, explore the involvement of STC1 in the occurrence, development, treatment and prognosis of breast cancer, and its role in breast cancer subtypes. This review provides directions for the future research on breast cancer management.
