Correlation of myocardial imaging features at the junction of the left atrium and left atrial appendage with morphological parameters of left atrial appendage in patients with atrial fibrillation
Objective To investigate the correlation of myocardial imaging features at the junction of the left atrium and left atrial appendage with morphological parameters of left atrial appendage in patients with atrial fibrillation based on the cardiac computed tomography angiography(CTA),and to explore its clinical significance. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 74 patients with atrial fibrillation,75 non-atrial fibrillation patients, and 56 normal controls who underwent coronary CTA scans in our hospital from May 2022 to May 2023,and clinical information was recorded.Morphological indicators of the myocardium at the junction of the left atrium and left atrial appendage, and the left atrial appendage were recorded by image reconstruction and post-processing technology. Results The age and body mass index(BMI)of atrial fibrillation patients were significantly larger than those of non-atrial fibrillation patients and normal controls(P<0.05).The circumference, short diameter and area of the left atrial appendage orifice, left atrial appendage volume, left atrium volume, and myocardial thickness at the junction of the left atrial appendage and left atrium in atrial fibrillation patients were significantly larger than those of non-atrial fibrillation patients and normal controls(P<0.05).There was no difference between non-atrial fibrillation patients and normal controls(P>0.05).Multivariate logistic analysis showed that compared to those of non-atrial fibrillation patients and normal controls, atrial fibrillation affected the myocardial thickness at the junction of the left atrial appendage and left atrium and the left atrium volume. The myocardial thickness at the junction of the left atrial appendage and left atrium was positively correlated with the volume of the left atrial appendage and left atrium, and the correlation was much higher with the volume of the left atrium. Conclusion Myocardium at the junction of the left atrial appendage and left atrium in atrial fibrillation patients thickens, and the myocardial thickness is positively correlated with the volume of the left atrial appendage and left atrium. The myocardial thickness at the junction of the left atrial appendage and left atrium may play an important role in the occurrence and development of atrial fibrillation.
