Application effect of nutritional support therapy on elderly patients with primary bronchogenic carcinomas and its impact on their quality of life during chemotherapy
Objective To explore the effectiveness of nutritional support therapy on elderly patients with primary bronchogenic carcinomas and its impact on their quality of life during chemotherapy. Methods A total of 86 elderly patients with primary bronchogenic carcinomas admitted to Department of Radiotherapy, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University from January 2020 to June 2021 were included as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into the research group and control group, with 43 cases in each group.Routine intervention was applied to patients of control group, and nutritional support therapy was given to those of the research group. The nutritional status, quality of life during chemotherapy, immune function, adverse events, and intervention satisfaction between the two groups were compared. Results The total protein, serum protein, and hemoglobin levels in the research group after intervention were(53.88±2.39)g/L,(32.43±1.79)g/L,and(9.49±1.36)g/L,respectively,which,in the control group after intervention were(46.78±2.05)g/L,(29.19±1.53)g/L,and(8.15±1.32)g/L,respectively.The total protein, serum protein, and hemoglobin levels in both groups after intervention were significantly higher than those before intervention, which were significantly higher in the research group than those of control group(P<0.05).The Quality of Life Questionnaire-Lung Cancer 13(QLQ-LC13)score during chemotherapy in the research group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).The levels of immunoglobulin G,A and M(IgG,IgA,IgM)and total lymphocyte count(TLC)in the research group were(8.13±0.66)g/L,(2.97±0.48)g/L,(1.43±0.17)g/L,and(1.05±0.11)×109/L,respectively,which,in the control group were(7.31±0.65)g/L,(2.02±0.21)g/L,(1.12±0.11)g/L,and(0.71±0.13)×109/L,respectively.Immune index levels of the research group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse events in the research group was significantly lower than that of the control group(6.98%vs 23.26%,P<0.05).The satisfaction rate with intervention in the research group was significantly higher than that of the control group(95.35%vs 74.42%,P<0.05).Conclusion The application of nutritional support therapy in elderly patients with primary bronchogenic carcinomas can improve their nutritional status, immune function, quality of life, and satisfaction, and reduce adverse events.
