Postoperative fear of recurrence in patients with intracranial meningiomas and its impact on recovery progress
Objective To explore the impact of postoperative fear of recurrence on the recovery process of patients with intracranial meningiomas. Methods Patients with intracranial meningiomas who underwent rehabilitation treatment from May 2020 to April 2022 were selected as the research subjects.Three months after surgery, patients with intracranial meningiomas were evaluated for fear of recurrence and recovery progress using the Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form(FoP-Q-SF)and the Glasgow Outcome Scale(GOS).The occurrence of fear of recurrence in patients with different clinical characteristics and different recovery processes was compared. The correlation between postoperative fear of recurrence and recovery process in patients with intracranial meningiomas was analyzed by the point biserial correlation. Results A total of 124 postoperative patients with intracranial meningiomas were included.Among them,39(31.45%)developed postoperative fear of recurrence, and 85(68.55%)cases without fear of recurrence. There were significant differences in education level, maximum tumor diameter, tumor grade, intervention time for rehabilitation, and surgical trauma between the occurrence group and non-occurrence group(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in other clinical features between groups(P>0.05).Patients with the GOS score≤3 points,National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)score>15 points, functional assessment measure(FAM)score<50 points, malnutrition, and the 36-Item Short Form(SF-36)score<500 points had significantly higher FoP-Q-SF scores than those of counterparts(P<0.05).The point biserial correlation showed that the fear of recurrence in patients with postoperative intracranial meningiomas was positively correlated with the GOS score, neurological deficits, motor function, nutritional status, and quality of life(r>0,P<0.05).Conclusion Education level, maximum tumor diameter, tumor grade, rehabilitation intervention time, and surgical trauma influence the occurrence of postoperative fear of recurrence in patients with intracranial meningiomas. The postoperative fear of recurrence in patients with intracranial meningiomas has an impact on the GOS score, neurological deficits, motor function, nutritional status, and quality of life.
