Effects of dietary intervention-based nutritional screening results on nutritional status and swallowing function in patients with dysphagia caused by cerebral infarction
Objective To explore the effects of dietary intervention-based nutritional screening results on nutritional status and swallowing function in patients with dysphagia caused by cerebral infarction. Methods Eighty patients with dysphagia caused by cerebral infarction admitted to our hospital from August 2021 to August 2022 were included as the study subjects and randomly assigned into two groups, with 40 cases in each group. The control group received routine intervention, while the observation group received dietary intervention based on nutritional screening results. The nutritional status, degree of food swallowing disorders, swallowing function, quality of life, and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results After intervention, the nutritional status of both groups was significantly better than that before intervention, and the improvement was more in observation group(P<0.05).The score of swallowing disorders degree in both groups was significantly higher than that before intervention, while the observation group was significantly higher than the control group(P<0.05).After intervention, the significantly lower standardized swallowing assessment(SSA)and significantly higher swallowing Quality of Life instrument(SWAL-QOL)scores were detected in the both groups(both P<0.05),and the observation group was superior to the control group for SSA and SWAL-QOL scores(both P<0.05).The incidences of complications in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(7.50%vs 27.50%,P<0.05).Conclusion For patients with dysphagia caused by cerebral infarction, dietary intervention-based nutritional screening results can effectively improve their nutritional status, degree of food swallowing disorders, and swallowing function, improve their quality of life, and reduce the complications.
