Objective To explore the clinical effect of Xingbei Zhike Granule combined with cefixime in treating acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis(AECB).Methods A total of 95 AECB patients admitted to Hai'an People's Hospital from April 2022 to April 2023 were recruited. They were randomly divided into study group and control group. All patients were treated with cefixime orally, and patients in the study group were additionally treated with Xingbei Zhike Granule. Both groups were treated continuously for 1 week. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was assessed. The improvement time of cough, expectoration, and wheezing in the two groups was recorded. The traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome(cough, expectoration, and wheezing, wheezing sound)scores, lung function including forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1),ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second to forced vital capacity(FEV1/FVC),and peak expiratory flow(PEF),serum inflammatory factors including interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),and C-reactive protein(CRP)were compared between groups before and after treatment.Adverse drug reactions were counted. Results After treatment, the total effective rate in the study group was significantly higher that of the control group(46/48[95.83%]vs 38/48[80.85%],P<0.05).After treatment, patients in the study group presented significantly shorter time to cough, expectoration, and wheezing, significantly lower TCM syndrome(cough, expectoration, and wheezing, wheezing sound)scores, significantly higher levels of FEV1,FEV1/FVC,and PEF,significantly lower levels of IL-6,TNF-α and CRP than those of control group(all P<0.05).There was no statistical significant difference in the incidence of diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain between groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Xingbei Zhike Granule combined with cefixime is effective in the treatment of AECB,which can effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of patients, improve lung function, reduce inflammatory reaction, and it is good safety.
