Objective To explore the effect of music therapy on the mood of patients with depression. Methods A total of 102 patients with depression hospitalized in the psychiatric department of The first hospital of Hebei Medical University from September 2018 to September 2019 were recruited. They were randomly divided into control group(n=51)and study group(n=51).Patients in the study group received music therapy combined with drug intervention of selective?serotonin reuptake inhibitors(SSRIs),whereas patients in the control group only received the latter. The basic demographic data of the patient:gender, age, personality, complications, number of attacks, occupation, education level, marital status, family economic status were collected.Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD)was used to assess the severity of depression on day 0 and weeks 1,2,4 of treatment. Results There were statistically significant differences in HAMD score at different time points(F=1033.961,P<0.001),and there was an interaction between groups and time points(F= 4.405,P= 0.014).Further analysis of individual effects showed that HAMD scores at the third and fourth time points in the study group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).In comparing the HAMD of patients with different characteristics,HAMD score of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group,HAMD score of the male was significantly higher than that of the female,HAMD score of the patients aged 36-59 and≥60 was significantly higher than that of the patients aged 18-35,the HAMD score of the patients with introverted personality was significantly higher than that of the neutral personality, and the HAMD score of the on-the-job staff was significantly higher than that of the non-on-the-job staff, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Group and enrolled HAMD were independent influencing factors of post-treatment HAMD.HAMD score in the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P=0.001).The higher the enrolled HAMD,the higher the post-treatment HAMD(P<0.001).The other factors had no effect on HAMD after treatment. Conclusion Music therapy has a positive effect in helping to improve the mood of patients with depression, and it can quickly alleviate the depression of patients.
