Applied research of high-intensity interval training in maintenance hemodialysis patients
Objective To assess the effects of high-intensity interval training(HIIT)in comparison with moderate-intensity continuous training(MICT)in patients with maintenance hemodialysis(MHD).Methods One hundred and sixty MHD patients visited the Jiangsu Province Hospital from January 2021 to January 2023 were enrolled as subjects. They were assigned to HIIT group and MICT group by a random number table.HIIT and MICT were applied to patients of HIIT group and MICT group, respectively. After 12 weeks of intervention, the incidence of intradialytic hypotension(IDH)and quality of life were compared between two groups. Results A total of 144 eligible patients were included, representing 71 cases of HIIT group and 73 cases of MICT group. The incidence of IDH in the HIIT group was significantly lower than of the MICT group(5.99%vs 8.64%,χ2=13.414,P<0.01).The incidence of IDH-related symptoms like dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and muscle spasms in the HIIT group were significantly lower than those of the MICT group(P<0.05).After 12 weeks of intervention, the scores of physical functioning,role-physical,general health, vitality, social functioning,role-emotional,mental health in the HIIT group were significantly higher than of the MICT group(P<0.05).Conclusion The intervention effect of HIIT is superior to MICT for MHD patients due to reduced incidence of IHD and its complications, and improved quality of life.
