Objective To study the correlation of serum adropin concentration with ankle brachial index(ABI)and brachial ankle pulse wave velocity(Ba-PWV).Methods A total of 179 patients visited the Department of Cardiology from January 2022 to June 2023 were enrolled in this study.Brachial systolic pressure, ankle systolic pressure and Ba-PWV were measured by Complior device. Then ABI was calculated.Serum adropin concentration was determined with an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)kit.According to ABI,the participants were also divided into low ABI group(ABI<0.9,n=71)and high ABI group(ABI≥0.9,n=108).The recruited subjects were further allocated to 2 groups based on Ba-PWV:high Ba-PWV group(Ba-PWV≥1400 cm/s,n=118)and low Ba-PWV group(Ba-PWV<1400 cm/s,n=61).Results Patients in low ABI group had significantly higher prevalence of hypertension(P=0.01),and significantly lower serum adropin concentration(P<0.001).Logistic regression analysis showed that serum adropin concentration was negatively correlated with low ABI(β=-0.715,P=0.027,OR=0.529,95%CI 0.342-0.987).Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis showed that serum adropin concentration below 2 998 pg/mL predicted low ABI and atherosclerosis(P<0.001).The area under the curve(AUC)was 0.864(95%CI 0.804,0.925),with the sensitivity of 89.8%and specificity of 81.7%.Patients in high Ba-PWV group had significantly higher fast glucose(P=0.002),significantly higher prevalence of hypertension(P=0.001),and significantly lower serum adropin concentration(P<0.001).Logistic regression analysis showed that serum adropin concentration was negatively correlated with high Ba-PWV(β=-0.562,P=0.002,OR=0.587 95%CI 0.398~0.837).ROC analysis showed that serum adropin below 3 019 pg/mL predicted high Ba-PWV and atherosclerosis(P<0.001).The AUC was0.861(95%CI0.792~0.929),with the sensitivity of 86.9%and specificity of 53.4%.Conclusion The serum adropin concentration is related with arterial stiffness and peripheral arterial atherosclerosis.
