Application of the Stryker unilateral external fixator combined with comprehensive rehabilitation therapy in postoperative patients with distal radius fractures
Objective To observe the application effect of the Stryker unilateral external fixator combined with comprehensive rehabilitation therapy in postoperative patients with distal radius fractures. Methods This was a prospective study including 80 patients with C-type distal radius fractures who were surgically treated with open reduction and internal fixation in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital,Capital Medical University from November 2021 to March 2023.The patients were divided into the control group and observation group using a random number table, with 40 patients per group.Patients in the both groups were treated with comprehensive rehabilitation therapy, while those in the observation group were additionally treated with Stryker unilateral external fixator for 3-month intervention. The callus X-ray scores at 1,2 and 3 months of intervention were graded. The active range of motion(dorsiflexion, palmar flexion, ulnar deviation, radial deviation)of wrist joint before intervention and 3 months after intervention were compared between the two groups. The excellent and good rate of the Gartland-Werley(G/W)score at 3 months after intervention and postoperative complications during intervention were compared. Results At the 1st,2nd,and 3rd month of intervention,X-ray scores of the bone callus in the two groups gradually increased, and which were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group at all time points(P<0.05).After 3 months of intervention, the range of motion(ROM)of wrist joint dorsiflexion, palmar flexion, ulnar deviation, and radial deviation in both groups increased significantly compared to before intervention, and the observation group was superior to the control group for ROM(P<0.05).The excellent and good rate of G/W score in the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of postoperative complications between groups during the intervention period(P>0.05).Conclusion Stryker unilateral external fixator combined with comprehensive rehabilitation therapy can promote fracture healing, improve wrist ROM,and restore wrist function in postoperative patients with distal radius fractures.
