Efficacy of Shenling Baizhu Powder combined with exercise interventions on T2DM patients with sarcopenia
Objective To explore the efficacy,safety and cost-effectiveness of Shenling Baizhu Powder combined with exercise interventions on type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)elderly patients with sarcopenia.Methods A total of 140 elderly T2DM patients with sarcopenia were assigned into the control group(70 cases)and intervention group(70 cases).Patients in both groups were given routine therapy,and those in the intervention group were additionally given Shenling Baizhu Powder combined with exercise interventions.Efficacy,safety and cost-effectiveness at 3 months were compared between groups.Results Follow-up was completed in both groups.Before treatment,there were no significant differences in the baseline data between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment,the glycated hemoglobin in the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group(7.66%vs 7.90%,t=2.279,P=0.024).Grip strength(24.00kg vs 22.24 kg,t=-2.205,P=0.029)and 6-meter walking pace(1.06s vs 0.99s,t=-2.638,P=0.009)were significantly higher in the intervention group than those of the control group.There was no exercise injury in the intervention group in the follow-up period.Patients in the intervention group had significantly lower adverse drug reactions(15.00%vs 16.67%,χ2=0.061,P=0.805),incidence of fractures(1.43%vs 7.14%,χ2=2.786,P=0.095),incidence of falling(4.29%vs 15.71%,χ2=5.079,P=0.024)and medical cost(1 799.60 yuan vs 1 905.16 yuan)than those of control group.The efficacy was significantly higher in the intervention group than that of control group(0.57%vs 0.26%),suggesting the absolute advantage plan.The results of sensitivity analysis were consistent with the cost effectiveness analysis.Conclusion Shenling Baizhu Powder combined with exercise interventions is safe to elderly T2DM patients with sarcopenia,which reduces glycated hemoglobin,incidence of falling and other adverse events and increase grip strength and 6-meter walking pace.It offers a higher efficacy,better safety and lower cost-effectiveness than conventional treatment.
