Objective To explore a monitoring method that can quantitatively evaluate the severity of excessive daytime sleepiness in patients with narcolepsy and to verify its effect. Methods Clinical data of narcolepsy patients diagnosed in the Department of Neurology, the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from 2021 to 2022 were collected.Their recordings of sleep logs were analyzed. All patients were monitored for the number, time and duration of sleep attacks using a long-term at-home portable polysomnography. Results The three sleep scale assessment scores of narcolepsy patients were significantly higher than those of healthy controls(P<0.05).The polysomnography data results were consistent with the sleep log recordings, including the number and duration of sleep attacks. The number of sleep attacks before and after medications and after withdrawal recorded by polysomnography was higher that of sleep log recordings, and the duration of sleep attacks recorded by the former method was longer. Conclusion Long-term at-home polysomnography can be used as a method to quantitatively evaluate daytime sleepiness, which can evaluate the severity and the effect of drug treatment, and provide more objective sleep data in patients with narcolepsy.
