Correlation between echocardiography and polysomnography monitoring results in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnea syndrome
Objective To explore the correlation between echocardiography and polysomnography monitoring results in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 73 patients who underwent polysomnography monitoring from August 2021 to February 2023.According to the apnea-hypopnea index(AHI),patients were assigned into mild group(5≤AHI<15,29 cases),moderate group(15≤AHI<30,15 cases),and severe group(AHI ≥ 30,29 cases).Baseline clinical data(gender, age, smoking, alcohol consumption, routine biochemical data, past history),polysomnography monitoring results(AHI,obstructive apnea/hypopnea index[OAHI],oxygen desaturation index[ODI],respiratory effort-related arousal[RERA]),and echocardiography(left atrial diameter[LAD],right atrial diameter[RAD],interventricular septum[IVS],left ventricular posterior wall[LVPW],left ventricular ejection fraction[LVEF])were compared among the three groups. The correlation between echocardiography and polysomnography monitoring was explored. Results In comparison of baseline clinical data among the three groups, the incidence of hypertension in the severe group was significantly higher than that of the moderate group and mild groups(all P<0.05).There were significant differences in AHI,OAHI,and ODI in pairwise comparison among the three groups(all P<0.05).A significant difference in RERA was detected between the severe group and moderate group, and between the severe group and mild group(all P<0.05).There were significant differences in IVS and LVPW between the severe group and moderate group on echocardiography(both P<0.05),and significant differences in LAD,IVS,and LVPW were detected between the severe group and mild group(all P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that LAD,IVS,and LVPW were positively correlated with AHI,OAHI,and ODI.Only LVPW was positively correlated with RERA.Conclusion The results of echocardiography and polysomnography in OSAHS patients show significant changes with the worsening of the condition.Among them,LAD,IVS,and LVPW are positively correlated with AHI,OAHI,and ODI,respectively. Our findings have important guiding significance to the evaluation of the condition and prognosis of OSAHS patients.
