Effectiveness and safety of ceftriaxone sodium combined with wake-up call in the treatment of children with purulent meningitis
Objective To investigate the effectiveness and safety of ceftriaxone sodium combined with wake-up call in the treatment of children with purulent meningitis(PM).Methods A total of 100 children with PM treated from February 2020 to February 2023 were randomly assigned into control group(n=50)and combination group(n=50).All patients were managed by ceftriaxone sodium, and those in combination group were additionally treated with wake-up call. The aim was to compare symptom relief time, inflammatory factors(C-reactive protein[CRP],interleukin-6[IL-6],interleukin-4[IL-4],procalcitonin[PCT]),serum related indexes(neuron-specific enolase[NSE],matrix metalloproteinase-9[MMP-9],soluble B cell antigen 7 homolog 3[sB7-H3],nitric oxide[NO],white blood cell count, glucose quantitative, protein quantitative level, chloride). The curative effect and medication safety were assessed. Results The overall effective rate in the combination group was significantly higher than that in the control group(94.00%vs 80.00%,P<0.05).The recovery time of body temperature, cerebrospinal fluid, leucocyte, and the hospitalization time were significantly shorter in the combination group than in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,CRP,IL-6,IL-4,PCT,NSE,MMP-9,sB7-H3,NO,white blood cell count, protein quantitative level in the both groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),which decreased notably in the combination group compared with the control group(P<0.05).The total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups was comparable(P>0.05).Conclusion For children with PM,ceftriaxone sodium combined with wake-up call can effectively shorten the symptom relief time, reduce inflammatory response, nerve system damages and cerebrospinal fluid pressure, and it is safe and effective.
