Comparison of effects of different enteral nutrition support strategies on quality of life in critically ill elderly patients
Objective To investigate the effect of two different enteral nutrition support strategies on prognosis of critically ill elderly patients. Methods A total of 62 critically ill elderly patients admitted to the intensive care unit of our hospital from April 2022 to March 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were assigned to control group(n=30,receiving early enteral nutrition with Ruidai)or observation group(n=30,receiving early enteral nutrition with Ruineng). The nutritional indicators, malnutrition risk and adverse reactions, and improvement of quality of life were compared between groups. Results After treatment, the levels of serum total protein(TP),albumin(ALB),transferrin(TF)and prealbumin(PA)in observation group were significantly lower than those of control group(P<0.05).After 2 weeks of treatment and at the last follow-up,the Nutritional Risk Screening 2002(NRS-2002)scores of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).The total incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was similar to the control group(12.50%vs 10.00%,P>0.05).The Generic Quality of Life Inventory 74(GQOL-74)scale scores(psychological, physical, social function and material life)in the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The effects were significantly different using different enteral nutrition support strategies in critically ill elderly patients. The application of Ruineng nutrition preparation is better than that of Ruidai nutrition preparation in the improvement of body nutrition and quality of life.
