Objective To evaluate the value of gastrointestinal ultrasound agent in the diagnosis of neonatal annular pancreas. Methods A total of 55 neonates with clinically suspected annular pancreas were examined by computed tomography(CT)and ultrasonography after taking ultrasound agent, and the detection rates of the two methods were compared. Results Among the 55 neonates,21 were surgically diagnosed as annular pancreas.Among them,13 cases were diagnosed as annular pancreas by ultrasonography and CT after taking ultrasound agent. The annular pancreas was not diagnosed by CT in 8 children, but it was diagnosed by ultrasound after taking ultrasound agent and surgically confirmed. One patient was diagnosed as annular pancreas by CT,and duodenal atresia was diagnosed by ultrasonography after taking ultrasound agent and surgically confirmed. There was a significant difference in the diagnostic rate between CT and ultrasonography after taking ultrasound agent(P<0.05).Taking gastrointestinal ultrasound agent favored the examination of the annular pancreas.Twenty-one children were diagnosed as annular pancreas after administration of gastrointestinal ultrasound agent, showing an enlargement of the pancreatic head,clamp-like extension around the descending duodenum, even fine dot-like echo in the parenchyma of the pancreatic head, and dilation of the stomach and duodenum superior to the obstructed site. Conclusion Taking gastrointestinal ultrasound agent for ultrasound diagnosis of neonatal annular pancreas is better than CT examination, and it is safe and reliable.
