Effect of bracketless invisible appliance versus traditional fixed orthodontic appliance in the treatment of periodontal disease
Objective To investigate the effect of bracketless invisible appliance versus traditional fixed orthodontic appliance in periodontal disease patients. Methods One hundred patients with periodontal disease admitted to Zhangjiakou Stomatolgical Hospital from January 2022 to January 2023 were recruited, they were randomized 1:1 to traditional fixed orthodontic appliance(the control group)or bracketless invisible appliance(the study group). The incidence of adverse reactions(ARs),quality of life, and changes in inflammatory factor levels and periodontal health before and after orthodontic treatment in both groups were compared. Results After orthodontic treatment, the levels of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α),C-reactive protein(CRP)and interleukin 6(IL-6)were significantly lower in the study group than in the control group, but IL-2 levels were significantly higher(P<0.05).The differences in plaque index(PLI),gingival index(GI),sulcus bleeding index(SBI),and probing depth(PD)between the two groups before orthodontic treatment were not statistically significant(P>0.05),and the incidences of PLI,GI,SBI,PD,and ARs were significantly lower in the study group than in the control group after orthodontic treatment(P<0.05).The scores of mental communication, social difficulties, functional limitations, and physical impairment were higher in the study group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of bracketless invisible appliance in patients with periodontal disease not only improves the periodontal situation of patients, but also reduces the incidences of ARs as well as the level of inflammatory factors, thus contributing to the improvement of patients'quality of life.
