Application of horticultural therapy combined with intelligent feedback training in elderly patients with cognitive impairment after cerebral infarction
Objective To explore the application effect of horticultural therapy combined with intelligent feedback training in elderly patients with cognitive impairment after cerebral infarction(CI).Methods This was a prospective study involving 92 elderly CI patients with cognitive impairment who visited Beijing Friendship Hospital,Capital Medical University from December 2021 to April 2023.They were randomly assigned into the control group and observation group using a random envelope method, with 46 patients in each group.Patients in the control group were managed by the horticultural therapy intervention, while those in the observation group were given horticultural therapy combined with intelligent feedback training intervention.A continuous intervention for 4 weeks was applied in both groups.Cognitive function, lower limb motor function, balance ability and fall risk were compared between the two groups before and after the intervention. Results After the intervention, the scores of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale(MoCA)in both groups increased, which were significantly higher in the observation group than the control group(P<0.05).After the intervention, the simplified Fugl Meyer Motor Function Assessment(FMA)scores, medial heel pressure, and lateral heel pressure significantly increased in both groups, which were significantly higher in the observation group than the control group(P<0.05).After the intervention, the elliptical area and length of movement decreased in both groups, which were significantly lower in the observation group than the control group(P<0.05).The scores of the Mini Balance Evaluation Systems Test(mini BESTest)in both groups significantly increased, which were significantly higher in the observation group than the control group(P<0.05).After the intervention, the scores of the Morse Fall Scale(MFS)significantly decreased in both groups, which were significantly lower in the observation group than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Horticultural therapy combined with intelligent feedback training can promote cognitive function recovery, lower limb motor function and balance ability, and reduce the risk of falls in elderly patients with cognitive impairment after CI.
