Effect of a modified chest belt on postoperative comfort in patients with thyroid tumors
Objective To analyze the effect of a modified chest belt on postoperative comfort in patients with thyroid tumors,thus providing guidance for improving postoperative symptoms and comfort.Methods A total of 140 surgically treated patients with thyroid tumors from April 2020 to July 2022 were selected and divided into two groups according to the use of postoperative chest straps,including 60 cases in the control group(use of a conventional chest belt),and 80 cases in the modified group(use of a modified chest belt).The comfort,pain,depression and anxiety scores of the two groups before and after surgery were compared.The incidence of postoperative adverse events in the two groups was calculated.Results There were no significant differences in the comfort scores,pain scores,depression and anxiety scores between the two groups before surgery(P＞0.05),and the scores of physical,psychological,sociocultural,and environmental dimensions and the total General Comfort Questionnaire(GCQ)scores of the two groups significantly decreased compared with those before surgery,which were significantly higher in the modified group than the control group(P＜0.05).The Numerical Rating Scale(NRS)score postoperatively in both groups significantly decreased than preoperative values,which was significantly lower in the modified group than the control group(P＜0.05).The Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)scores postoperatively in both groups significantly decreased than preoperative values,which were significantly lower in the modified group than the control group(P＜0.05).The incidence of postoperative adverse events was significantly lower in the modified group than that of the control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion Compared with the conventional chest belt,the modified chest belt with a fixable ice pack can promote the postoperative comfort of patients with thyroid tumors,alleviate adverse physical condition and negative mood,and reduce the risk of postoperative adverse events,which is of great significance for the postoperative recovery of thyroid tumors.
