Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture with"Intestine-spirit Joint Therapy"on autism spectrum dis-order(ASDs).Methods:Sixty-four children with ASDs were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 32 cases in the control group(2 cases lost)and 32 cases in the observation group(1 case lost). The control group received routine rehabil-itation training, specifically behavioral analysis, sensory integration training, speech therapy, and repetitive transcranial magnetic ther-apy;On the basis of the control group, the observation group was treated with acupuncture with"Intestine-spirit Joint Therapy" based on the brain-gut axis theory.A course of treatment lasts for 4 weeks, and a total of 6 courses of treatment will be a dministered. The scores of the Autism Behavior Checklist(ABC),Childhood Autism Rating Scale(CARS),Traditional Chinese Medicine Symptom Score for gastrointestinal diseases(TCMSS),and Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist(ATEC)were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 87.1%,while that of the control group was 63.3%.The total effective rate in the observation group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the scores of ABC,CARS,TCMSS,and ATEC in both groups decreased compared to the same group before treatment(P<0.05),and the observa-tion group was lower than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:The combined application of acupuncture with "Intestine-spirit Joint Therapy" and routine rehabilitation training can effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms and gastrointestinal function problems of children with ASDs.
