The Occurrence and Source of Lithium in the Ultra-lithium-rich Rock Series of the Mazongling Bauxite Deposit,Northern Guizhou,China
In order to identify the lithium occurrence and its source of the ultra-lithium-rich rock series in the middle to upper part of the lower Permian Dazhuyuan Formation of the Mazongling bauxite deposit in northern Guizhou,whole-rock geochemical and X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis were carried out on the typical rocks(ores)within the Dazhuyuan Formation. The results show that the average content of Li in nodular and semi-earthy bauxite is 45.3 × 10-6,in claystone is 132.0 × 10-6,in aluminous claystone is 465.9 × 10-6,in bauxite is 791.0 × 10-6,and in compact massive bauxite is 1 013.0 × 10-6.Nodular and semi-earthy bauxite consists mainly of dacite;compact massive bauxite consists mainly of burmite, followed by kaolinite,illite,montmorillon-ite,and chlorite;aluminous claystone consists mainly of kaolinite, illite, followed by montmorillonite, and quartz;chlorite claystone consists mainly of chlorite, kaolinite, and illite.Lithium is mainly enriched in compact massive bauxite, bauxite, and aluminous claystone.Lithium is mainly analogously hosted in lithium-bearing chlo-rite,and to a lesser extent in boehmite.Boehmite acts as a barrier, resulting in the highest lithium content in compact massive bauxite. The source tracing study of high field strength element such as Nb,Ta,Zr,Hf,and REE indicates that the lithium in the lithium-rich rock strata may be mainly derived from Neoproterozoic basal-ul-tramafic rocks in the western section of the Jiangnan orogenic belt.
