A Critical Study on Relationship between Zhu Xi's Poetry Education and Ritual Music
During the pre-Qin period,the Six Classics were used as the foundation of education with the"Book of Songs"being the most important one.Zhu Xi is not only an inheritor of the tradition of Confucian Po-etry tradition,but also an innovator of the theory of Poetry.Zhu Xi reinterpreted and affirmed the significance of Confucian poetry education with his philosophical concept of"nature,form and emotion".This Neo-Confu-cian approach also became the logical basis for Zhu Xi to interpret the relationship beween ritual and music.He explicitly put forward"Poetry is the essence and music is the subsidiary"and"Ritual and music originate from the same entity",which address the relationship between ritual and music from a metaphysical perspec-tive.Starting from the values of ritual and music,Zhu Xi clearly established the priority of"respect"before"harmony",allowing for a distinction between the roles of"ritual"and"music"as important components of poetic education in practice.Furthermore,Zhu Xi discussed the implementation path of the core value of Con-fucian poetry education-"benevolence"by proposing the theory of"respect form and practical application"within poetry education.In-depth analysis and interpretation of Zhu Xi's understanding of the relationship be-tween ritual and music can help us gain a deeper understand of ing his poetry education ideas.
