Based on the new concept for development and combining the five characteristics of the Chinese path to modernization,a Chinese path to modernization indicator system has been constructed,encompassing five dimen-sions:economic modernization,innovation modernization,shared modernization,ecological modernization,and governance modernization.Using the entropy weight method and data from provincial statistical yearbooks and Baidu Index,the level of the Chinese path to modernization was measured for 31 provinces(municipalities,autono-mous regions)in China from 2012 to 2021.Additionally,techniques such as kernel density estimation,σ-con-vergence model,β-convergence model,and panel data K medoids clustering algorithm based on dynamic time warping were employed to analyze the dynamic evolution characteristics,convergence mechanism,and development patterns of the Chinese path to modernization.The research findings indicate that the level of the Chinese path to modernization has gradually improved from 2012 to 2021.The eastern region exhibits the highest level of the Chi-nese path to modernization,while the central region demonstrates the highest growth rate.However,the western and northeastern regions face challenges of low levels and sluggish growth of the Chinese path to modernization.The absolute convergence rate of the Chinese path to modernization across all provinces is 0.7%,and the conditional convergence rate is 3%,but no σ-convergence is observed.Cluster analysis reveals two types of Chinese path to modernization:developmental and transformative.The developmental path focuses on economic modernization,with outstanding achievements in shared modernization and ecological modernization.The transformative path seeks breakthroughs and innovations through institutional reforms,emphasizing governance modernization and innovative modernization.
