The father from China and Whitman Ah Sing are repeatedly depicted in Maxine Hong Kingston's works,which have formed a pair of images including xiucai and hippies.Instead of proposing the binary opposition of Chi-nese and American,it aims at claiming how local and folk language influences the accumulation of individual expe-rience and community history.Since she emphasized her identity as a modern American writer,Kingston had fol-lowed the American Language declared by Walt Wittman and William Carlos Williams.She had been writing with a living and practical language,which were fully developed in the figure of Wittman Ah Sing.Moreover,because of her American Chinese identity and the cultural mobility in the era of globalization,she had broaden American Lan-guage in its usage of definition and reflection,which also developed this tradition by constructing modern and di-verse American English in her works.
