Abstract
The Teachers in Ancient Roman World delves into the social roles and educational practices of teachers during the Ancient Roman period.Professor Qing-hong Ji,the author,conducted a comprehensive analysis of the historical background,teachers in the family,professional teachers,and their relationship with the state of ancient Roman teachers from both macro and micro perspectives.The book divides the history of ancient Roman culture and education into four stages,revealing the close connection between education and historical background.In family education,the father holds a central position,while the mother,paedagogus,and home tutor assist in completing educational tasks.Professional teachers were mainly composed of Greek cultural slaves and Roman intellectuals,who played important roles in aristocratic families and schools.In addition,the book also discusses the social status of teachers and the impact of national policies on this group.Despite some shortcomings,The Teachers in Ancient Roman World is undoubtedly the first specialized book in Chinese academic circle to systematically study ancient Roman teachers,providing valuable perspectives and materials for understanding ancient Roman education.
