Research on the Impact of Digitalization in Distribution on Economic Resilience——A Perspective Based on Intermediary Effects and Spatial Spillover Effects
The digitization of the distribution industry plays a foundational role in enhancing circulation efficiency, reducing distribution costs, and promoting the circularity of the national economy.Gradually,it has become a key driving force to bolster regional economic resilience.Building up-on theoretical analyses of the impact and mechanisms of distribution digitization on economic resilience, this study integrates panel data from 31 provinces and cities in China spanning from 2011 to 2021.It constructs an evaluation index system for distribution digitization and utilizes the entro-py method to assess the development levels of distribution digitization across provinces and cities.Empirical tests are conducted to examine the im-pact of distribution digitization on economic resilience. The results indicate that the development of distribution digitization significantly promotes the improvement of economic resilience levels.Even after robustness checks and endogeneity handling, this conclusion remains valid. The intermediary effect mechanism demonstrates that the integration of the distribution industry and digitization expedites the upgrading of industrial structure, thereby enhancing regional economic resilience. In terms of spatial distribution, the promotion effect of distribution digitization on economic resilience in China's eastern region surpasses that in the central and western regions. Both distribution digitization and economic resilience exhibit evident differ-entiation characteristics.Regions with higher levels tend to cluster together,as do regions with lower levels.Distribution digitization exhibits spatial spillover effects on economic resilience, not only boosting the resilience levels in the local area but also fostering economic resilience in neighboring provinces. This research underscores the pivotal role of distribution digitization in shaping economic resilience and offers valuable insights for policy-makers and stakeholders alike.
